“I never made a decision to become an artist. I wanted to become several things as a young person—an athlete, a conductor, an architect, an oceanographer,” the Wolfgang Hahn Prize winner Jac Leirner remarked in an interview with Yilmaz Dziewior. We are delighted that Jac Leirner became an artist and that we had the opportunity to honor her with the Wolfgang Hahn Prize—the first South American recipient—for her smart and ambitious oeuvre of masterfully arranged collages and sculptures.
In the publication accompanying the prize awarded to Leirner, you will discover several large-format views of her presentation at the Museum Ludwig along with the laudation by Jochen Volz—a beautiful text on the “power and poetry of Jac Leirner’s work” and a wonderful introduction to the artist’s oeuvre. The laudation is supplemented by an interview with Leirner conducted by Yilmaz Dziewior, in which you can also read the quote above.
