Winner of the 2018 British Book Design & Production Awards for Exhibition Catalogue Category.
The materials that Brazilian artist Jac Leirner (b.1961, São Paulo) uses in her work are often very simple, or seemingly disposable. However, in her compulsive collecting and careful arrangement of them she breathes new life into them, drawing attention to their formal qualities as objects. The artist began to exhibit such works in Brazil in the 1980s, and grew her international reputation in the early 1990s. This exhibition, which was Leirner’s first in Scotland, presented a cross-section of work from throughout her career, from the early 1980s to 2017.
This tome includes new writing by Fiona Bradley, Director of Fruitmarket, The New York based curator and writer Philip Larratt-Smith, and an interview of Jac Leirner by Scottish artist and writer David Batchelor.
