Esther Schipper is delighted to announce the new gallery location in Seoul.
Launched in 2022, Esther Schipper, Seoul opened a space in Itaewon to develop the gallery’s long-standing partnership and collaboration with the Korean art community. The new space at 24 Hannam-daero, Yongsa-gu is a generous five-story building/four floor gallery situated in the thriving Hannam neighbourhood. Sunil Kim continues to lead the gallery and has been appointed Directing Partner.
In continuation of the core tenets of the gallery, which over more than three decades has provided a platform for artists to present projects and exhibitions that mark novel territories and initiate important conceptual departures, Esther Schipper, Seoul is looking forward to mounting compelling international solo exhibitions by the gallery artists, as well as curated group exhibitions, and continuing the support for major institutional projects in Korea.
This spring, Esther Schipper, Seoul is pleased to announce Pierre Huyghe’s solo exhibition opening at the Leeum Museum of Art in February 2025, where gallery artists Philippe Parreno and Anicka Yi held exhibitions in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Ugo Rondinone, Liam Gillick, and Ryan Gander had major Korean institutional shows in the recent years. In its first location, Esther Schipper, Seoul exhibited Rosa Barba, Angela Bulloch, Etienne Chambaud, Ceal Floyer, Tomasz Kręcicki, Isa Melsheimer, Thomias Radin, Anri Sala, and Karin Sander as well as organized group exhibitions that featured renown Korean artists, House on Fire and Dui Jip Ki. Esther Schipper, Seoul is committed to introducing global artists to the Korean audience, proposing the exhibition making that specifically addresses Seoul audience and Seoul context, and the accompanying public program of lectures by curators from the National Museums. Promoting emerging artists continues to be an important part of the gallery's mission. In 2024 Hyunsun Jeon joined the gallery, represented by Esther Schipper in partnership with Gallery2.
Designed by New York-based architecture firm StudioMDA, the new space features three floors dedicated to exhibitions with a fourth-floor showroom. Esther Schipper, Seoul will officially open its doors in March of 2025.
We look forward to your presence at our new space!
