Introduction

Sty/eGames is a long-term information game. The playing field is the unstable world of visual culture. Game pieces are found information, partly associatively related to each other, partly not yet set.

Sty/eGames shows situations of a search for the new. This search creates dynamics. In advertising, in fashion, in design, in music, in film, in the trend world, in the real world and in art.

The previous work of Roth/Stauffenberg (e.g. Happier Days Film / Fotoarchiv / lnternet site) is a latent commentary on ritual photography and film. In this context they are interested in both the effect of advertising and fashion as media communication.

Recurring and thus recognizable gestures are publicly performed rituals. Even the 'unusual' or the persiflage presupposes knowledge of the ritual.

Sty/eGames No.1

On 21 May between 2 and 5pm the first game with 200 guests was opened in the gallery. Guest ‘player’ was Ulf Poschardt with his book Anpassen. Different cinematic tours through the wardrobe could be seen: a game board on the wall, in the form of a variable honeycombnetwork, develops from game to game. Not every knot is buttoned. A casual sketch. Similar to relics of a coach meeting. Movements, dynamics, functions and directions are indicated. Comparing and distinguishing, time and historical context become painting staffs. Commonalities are recognized as ‘style’.

The game board in the form of large bubblejet tracks resembles a shooting target by Jean-Luc Godard for a sci-fi western starring John McEnroe. "Il était une fois". A certain fuzziness appears in the viewer.
