Introduction

statement house (temporary title) (2015) was first built in London, as part of a group exhibition at the Royal College of Art. It was occupied by three permanent dwellers who were “writing the house,” one via twitter from New York, two via twitter but also their presence in the house, physically rearranging the house and its contents: basic furnishing, a desk and a chair, a daybed and a tap and a bucket, as well as more abstracted shapes cut from mdf without a clearly prescribed function. These multicolored planes or ‘plans’ similar to the footprint of the house – a square with cut corners and a hole – functioned in turn as aesthetic adornments and as useful tools, doubling as shutters for the windows, trays, or separators. The colored shapes have the potential for an infinite array of coding and encryption options.
