New Hang: Tate, New Hang 5, 2004–05
Tempera on paper on board
Over one year and four shoots, an implausible 'hang' was created in a room at Tate Britain, using works from Tate collection. Starting with a view from the entrance, each of the paintings depicted the space in which it would eventually hang as seen from the vantage point of the previous painting. Travelling through the space, the imagined show could be perceived from different angles. The paintings acted as evidence of a show that never existed. The curatorial logic was solely to fulfil its own documentation as painting.
