From left to right: Costume for M.2062 (Lola Montez) (on the chair and hanging) In collaboration with Clémence Bellin For this apparition, Gonzalez-Foerster draws on the 1955 film Lola Montez, in which its director Max Ophüls envisioned the life of a minor historical character mostly known for her amorous exploits with famous men. Costume for M.2062 (Fitzcarraldo) The holographic projection shows Gonzalez-Foerster as Fitzcarraldo, the protagonist of Werner Herzog’s eponymous 1981 film, portrayed by Klaus Kinski. Costume for M.2062 (The Boy with Green Hair) The 1948 film The Boy with Green Hair, directed by Joseph Losey, addresses the aftermath of World War II. The pacifist fable centered on the psychological cost of war on children. Valley Chair Costume for M.2062 (Vicky) In collaboration with Clémence Bellin Starring Faye Dunaway as Vicky, The Thomas Crown Affair is about an insurance agent seeking to solve an art theft and centers on deception, seduction and an obsession with art and possession. Costume for QM.15 (Maria Callas) In collaboration with Clémence Bellin A recording of DGF’s live apparition as Maria Callas is transformed into a holographic illusion that creates a ghostly operatic presence in a very large dark and empty space. Mountain Chair At the center of the space: Stage with costume for QM.15 (Sarah Bernhardt) In collaboration with Clémence Bellin This apparition is a curtain ghost. Schinkel Pavillon is pleased to announce Costumes & Wishes for the 21st Century, a collaboration between BLESS, visual artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and interdisciplinary design studio Manuel Raeder. The exhibition opens on October 30, 2016 in both Schinkel Pavillon’s main space and Schinkel Klause and runs through early 2017.
