The work is co-commissioned and presented by VIVE Arts, in partnership with Esther Schipper and organised with Olivier Renaud-Clément.
Ryan Waiting, 2024 is Gander’s first artificial intelligence virtual reality artwork. The work which exists as both a VR experience and a wrap-around environment of monitors for visitors to walk into renders Gander as cartoony avatar. At the same time, the rendered figure has an uncanny life-likeness due to motion capture which retains characteristic gestures of the artists and his body language.
