Introduction

Meditation in Peace. Meditation in Pieces is David Claerbout's first solo exhibition in Taiwan, after being featured in the Taipei Biennial in 2004. The exhibition showcases a selection from his large-scale video works since 1996, including The Close, 2022, Aircraft (F.A.L.), 2015-2021, Wildfire (Meditation on fire), 2019-2020, The Pure Necessity, 2016, and more.

Alongside the videos, the retrospective includes series of related drawings, which will be dispersed throughout the museum's high-ceiling gallery. The space provides a unique viewing experience combining images, sound, light and dark, showcasing the different aspects of Claerbout’s practice over the last 25 years. Through manipulating and experimenting with motion and stillness, time and speed, as well as sound, Claerbout destabilizes conventional boundaries between visual media, and imbues his video images with multilayered temporalities.
