Gabriel Kuri developing property development, 2019

Composite concrete with Jin-Chan frogs and Euro coin holders

11 parts, dimensions variable

Inquire

Gabriel Kuri's sculpture consists of eleven parts of poured composite concrete, placed on the floor and on the wall behind.

The uneven blackish surface of the poured concrete has some reddish highlights, reinforcing the resemblance to dried and semi-molten lava. This initial impression however is undermined by the flat side surfaces where the material was cut into segments and that reveal their human-made quality. The linearity of their placement suggests an analogy with language or sheet music: as if their order were due to an underlying logic that could or should become legible to the viewer.
