Introduction
With the idea of continuing a confrontation with the architecture of the former FIAT factory, the spectacular installations on the roof of the Lingotto accompany visitors on a poetic journey around the circularity of the track, which is transformed from closed circuit to open road.
The installation by Liam Gillick on the ramp, the special road signs by Marco Giordano, the billboard hosting Nan Goldin’s photograph, the sign by SUPERFLEX, appropriate the characteristic imagery of the urban context and trigger a reflection on the languages of public space today.
The new works join existing installations by Nina Beier, VALIE EXPORT, Sylvie Fleury, Shilpa Gupta, Louise Lawler, Mark Leckey and Cally Spooner, which embrace the different languages of sculpture: environmental installations, light or sound works, expanded cinema projects and sculptures that confront the architecture of the building.
The programme for the Pista 500, curated by Sarah Cosulich and Lucrezia Calabrò Visconti, offers several and varied perspectives on public art, comprising new works that will be unveiled gradually over the next few years. The vision is that of an open-air exhibition developing over time as well as space, with unprecedented dialogues between the works on display, the track and garden that host them, and the surrounding landscape.
