Introduction

The exhibition The Pieces I Am brings together 27 artists and art collectives, including Ann Veronica Janssens, to share slices of contemporary life as viewed through multiple interfaces, opening up a full-spectrum reading of humanity’s digital existence.

On view will be Ann Veronica Janssens' hou hou, a work from the artist's series of mist sculptures begun in 2004. The bright light of seven projectors is captured in a suspended haze, materializing the pattern of a vaporous star. Janssens’ fog stars can be defined by the absence of materiality, even as they create tangible forms. With her bright, star-shaped sculptures, Janssens introduces the ideas of fluidity, immateriality and impermanence into sculpture, while reminding us of the astronomical principle that stars only exist through the light they radiate.

The exhibition is jointly presented by UCCA and Douyin Art, and will be simultaneously displayed at UCCA Edge and online on Douyin. The exhibition is curated by UCCA Lab Curators Liya Han and Yoojin Tang together with special guest curator Iris Long, and is organized by the UCCA Lab team.
