Roman Ondak Clockwork, 2014
The work originates with a red Mason line (used in construction to level) installed above eye-level. The line spans the entire space. Its two ends meet near a corner, weighted with plumb bobs, marking the spot where the list of visitors will begin. As someone enters the space an attendant poses two questions: “What time is it?” and “what is your name?” The attendant inscribes this information on the wall with a black felt-tipped pen, in columns running horizontally along the wall. As more visitors are tallied, the vertical rows become a record of attendance.
