For her Mailed Paintings Series, Karin Sander buys white ready-made canvases in standard sizes from art supplies stores. The artist then sends the unwrapped and unprotected canvases by post. During its transport the painting undergoes a transformation: traveling from one city to the next, it accrues marks, stamps, dirt, dust and stickers with destination addresses, from customs agencies and alike. In effect, every canvas is inscribed with its own personal history.
