Ari Benjamin Meyers Vexations 2, 2013

The work consists of 840 pages of custom-made blank sheet music on which Ari Benjamin Meyers has hand-copied the one-page composition Vexations 2. The pages are stored in 5 cloth-covered boxes. The pages can be displayed in small groups or as a whole. A tribute to the composer Erik Satie (1866 - 1925), Meyers takes as point of departure the older composer's piece Vexations. Following Satie's instruction to perform 840 repetitions of the one page-long musical piece, Meyers composed his own version of the piece and, instead of playing it, wrote it down 840 times.
