Gabriel Kuri Table Of Metals 25 to 4, 2013
Paper coin wrappers on vintage magazine pages
27.5 x 64 cm (unframed)
47 x 82 x 3 cm (framed)
Gabriel Kuri's collage is reminiscent of a periodic table of elements, but in this case the image shows only metallic elements and the different products in which they may found. In the illustrations taken from a vintage magazine these metal pellets, balls and rods resemble abstract, plastic, almost sculptural forms. Three empty, slightly torn coin wrappers of different denominations are placed on the magazine pages, apparently color-coded. These three everyday elements break up the abstract scientific meaning of the work, connecting the pictures of metal to the circulation of capital.
