Gabriel Kuri superimposed nude with point, 2013
Gabriel Kuri's sculpture consists of several pieces of thin slabs of marble placed against the wall and several objects loosely attached to the structure. The different elements construct a composition of shapes that plays with an element of representation, perhaps alluding to the rounded curves of body parts, yet refuses any concrete representational claim suggested in the work's title.
The surfaces of these marble slabs are polished, their edges are also smooth, with curved cuts that are obviously calculated. While the material refer to the traditional use of marble in sculpture and in architectural, the repetition of curved forms situate these sculptures on the margins of modular systems, typical of the manufactured mark of minimalism.
