Gabriel Kuri Privacy Standards, 2015
Aluminum and polyester folding screens, aluminum blankets, wooden stocks
210 x 358 x 128 cm
Privacy Standards combines found privacy screens and components made of wooden staffs and silver emergency blankets. Introduced in the early 2000s, Gabriel Kuri's series of silver foils on poles, entitled Quick Standards, referred to the often-improvised banners used in political demonstration. Paired with privacy screens — each consists of three panels of pastel fabric in a free-standing aluminium frame — the work juxtaposes the notion of public protest and privacy, both in a compromised form.
