Gabriel Kuri Forecast, 2015
Mixed media in wood and Plexiglas vitrine with interior lighting
240 x 200 x 100 cm
Forecast is a large-scale custom-made vitrine that contains tightly grouped light boxes with logos commonly indicating cash points/ATMs. A frequent sight in the global urban landscape, the commercial signs are rendered unfamiliar by their presentation. Functionless, they are re-imagined as artifacts displayed in a vitrine that recalls those found in museums, in which small, precious or easily damaged objects are displayed. This work is part of a body of work whose point of departure can be found in the Lightboxes that Gabriel Kuri first developed for his 2011 exhibition at Esther Schipper.
