Christoph Keller Herbarium Amazonas - Sheets (3), 2014
Pigment-Print on Hahnemühle Rice Paper
110 x 85 cm (unframed)
115,6 x 90,3 x 3,5 cm (framed)
The work shows a large dried leaf that has partially fused with an underlying sheet of thin rice paper. On and around the leaf traces of powder and spider webs with small cocoons can be seen; the paper underneath is partially discolored and broken, at several places showing a white background below. Although the surfaces of the leaf and of the rice paper at first appear raised and three dimensional, the image has been produced using a very high definition scan and is scaled to be larger. Because of this increase in size and the extremely high resolution, it becomes possible to see details beyond what the human eye can normally perceive or what a lens-based process can capture.
