Pierre Huyghe Untitled (Pavillion For Miss General Idea), 2014
Origami, paper
30 x 30 x 25 cm
The work consists of a sheet of paper folded to create a vaguely architectural object, reminiscent of a pitched-roof pavilion, placed on a plinth and under a Plexiglas cover. The piece refers to the project by the Canadian artists group General Idea which began with The 1971 Miss General Idea Pageant, an elaborately staged one-night event and continued with plans, designs, objects and decorations for The 1984 Miss General Idea Pavillion, a project initiated in 1973 as utopian largely imaginary exhibition site. In 1974, General Idea produced this letterhead for the fictional foundation ostensible created to support this project.
