Pierre Huyghe Exomind (Deep water), 2017–ongoing
Concrete cast with wax hive, bee colony, orange tree (Daidai), plum tree (Tobiume descendant), plants, sand, stones, calico cat, ants, spider, butterfly, concrete pond with water lilies (Giverny descendant), koi fish, axolotl and insects
A development of the artist's iconic Untilled (Liegender Frauenakt) conceived for the 2012 Documenta 13 in Kassel, Exomind (Deep water) was created as part of a permanent garden environment Pierre Huyghe created at the Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine on the Japanese Island of Fukuoka.
The head of the sculpture is covered by a beehive with a live colony of bees. The concrete sculpture of a crouching woman is based on a small statue by the Japanese sculptor Tobari Kogan (1882–1927), whose work was influenced by European modernism.
