This is part of Thomas Demand's 2021 five-part series entitled Refuge depicting the hermetically sealed hotel room in the transit area of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, where the American ex-intelligence agent Edward Snowden spent five weeks in 2013 before being granted asylum in Russia. Snowden was the sole occupant of this accommodation and for more than a month in what was, in keeping with the intermediate zone, lived in a windowless room.
