Angela Bulloch Cosa Nostra, 2011
The work is conceptual and has no pre-defined form. The owner has the right to execute and reproduce the work in any desired form, medium or size, and the execution of the work can be undertaken independently of the artist.
The works in Angela Bulloch's Rules Series are determined by sets of rules the artist has collected and assembled from various sources and contexts. The sets of rules generally list regulations of behavior within specific settings, groups or organizations. Sources and behavioral topics for the rules so far explore both the the more general: rules relating to art and the art world, technology, cinema, music, currency and politics, to the more specific or esoteric, such as bungee-jumping, waitresses, fad diets, pocket handkerchief color codes, and the Italian Mafia. There are also rules for the rules series that are also part of the series. Rules Series is often humorous, intentionally avoiding the deadpan rigor of historical Conceptual art.
