This photograph depicts Felix Partz (1945-1994)—former member with AA Bronson and Jorge Zontal of the Canadian artist collective General Idea—lying on his bed a few hours after he died from AIDS-related illness on June 5, 1994. Partz is surrounded by his favorite objects: a pack of cigarettes, a remote control and a tape-recorder. Dressed in a vividly patterned shirt, his head resting on brightly colored cushions, Partz’s skeletal face and unclosing eyes create a striking with the vibrant composition.
Felix, June 5, 1994 is Bronson’s first solo work. It is both an homage and farewell to General Idea—the third member of the group, Jorge Zontal, had also died from AIDS-related illness a few months before—as well as a testament to Bronson’s continued art making.
The work exists in three different formats.
