Ryan Gander Evidence of Absence, 2019
Two Peli cases containing 12 glowing acrylic cubes each
Installation dimensions variable
20,4 x 55,6 x 42,8 cm each, 2 Peli cases
Two grey Peli cases containing acrylic cubes numbered 1 to 24 — 12 in each case — are presented open on the floor. The cubes are made of a semi-transparent acrylic glass and contain LED lights emitting a white glow similar to daylight. Ryan Gander has foreseen a practical application for Evidence of Absence. The set is supposed to be deployed by a curator or an artist to mark the position of specific artworks in an exhibition. The remaining cubes are displayed in the open cases, left in a corner of the exhibition space or near the exit, thus suggesting hypothetical, undefined artworks.
