Ryan Gander I... I... I…, 2019
Animatronic mouse, hole in a wall
19,4 x 24 x 28,2 cm (installation)
Duration (animatronics): 7 min approx.
I... I... I… is an iteration of Ryan Gander’s animatronic mice. In this particular work, a white mouse looks through a hole broken in the gallery wall, close to the floor. Dust and pieces of plaster are scattered below the hole as if the mouse has just emerged from the wall. The robotic animal attempts to deliver a speech using the voice of the artist’s 9-year-old daughter who struggles and stammers with her words, not quite knowing how to begin or what exactly to say.
