Liam Gillick Long view towards a renovated factory, 2007
Powder coated aluminium, Plexiglas
213 x 310 x 30 cm
Long view towards a renovated factory is a multi-colored indoor sculpture constructed from powder-coated aluminium with inserted Plexiglas panels. The work is belongs to Liam Gillick's series of free-standing screens begun in 1997.
Long view towards a renovated factory continues the themes explored in Gillick’s Discussion Islands works begun in the mid 1990s: it designates an imaginary space where a possible dialogue could take place. The title of the structure refers to Gillick's long-standing project "Construction of One"- a book that takes up the story of a closing northern European factory. As is generally true of Gillick's sculptural works, Long view towards a renovated factory is not only affecting settings of a particular space, it can also be seen as an artwork encouraging conversations and discourse.
