Liam Gillick Factories In The Snow (Il Tempo del Postino), 2007
Yamaha Disklavier piano DGC1, midi file, snow machine
Duration 07:24 min (loop)
Factories in the Snow (Il Tempo Postino) is an installation that comprises a digital player-piano, a sound recording, a snow machine, and falling artificial snow. This work was first presented in 2007 at various moments throughout the seminal three-hour group exhibition/stage production Il Tempo del Postino, which was co-curated by Philippe Parreno and Hans Ulrich Obrist for the first Manchester International Festival and performed at the Manchester Opera House on July 12, 2007. The piano plays a recording of Liam Gillick performing, from memory, a piano rendition of the Portuguese fighting song Grândola, Vila Morena.
