Thomias Radin RIVÂL, 2023
Duration: 18:38 min
The Film RIVÂL is an HD video, single channel color film.
It premiered in September 2023 at KINDL in the group exhibition POLY. A Fluid Show, which was part of a series of exhibitions catalyzed by Thomias Radin’s solo exhibition POLYCHROME – The Myth of Karukera and Cibuqueira at Galerie Wedding, Berlin.
The film was shot in Greece and tells the story of two rival dancers: Cibuqueira and Karukera, played by Thomias Radin and Andrege Bidiamambu. Throughout the film one sees the uncertain path of the dancers, who are migrants in a foreign country searching for their identities. Greece as a country of migration serves as the backdrop—with scenes shot at sea, at bus stations, in administrative buildings, museums, on the roofs of Athens, in modest apartments, at day and night. The two rivals dance on their common quest for belonging and find each other through movement as a shared language.
The client receives the master file of the film in a unique hand-carved wooden box.
The film is a collaborative production between Thomias Radin, Alex Brack & Mats Meisen.
