Tomasz Kręcicki Suit, 2023
Oil, acrylic, hair, pigment and floss on canvas
157,2 x 143,1 cm
A major theme of Tomasz Kręcicki's work has been a kind of bathos: the mockery of earnestness, undercutting aspirations through absurdity, jokes, and wit. In this context, Suit draws on the idea of dressing up for a formal occasion and contrasts it with the everyday: lint, hair, flakes of skin, that is, vestiges of one's embodied existence, seen on the bright surface of the lint roller. The removal, and Kręcicki's apparent transfer onto canvas, highlights the often silly embarrassment provoked by small lapses.
