Tomasz Kręcicki Ulewa, 2022
The depiction of a storm-ravaged umbrella, broken and with its thin black rods piercing through the material combines vulnerability and aggression. While some works depicting everyday objects evoke a sense of anxiety and foreboding another major theme has been a kind of bathos: the mockery of earnestness, undercutting aspirations through absurdity, jokes, and wit. Kręcicki’s subject matter then is inherently existential and addresses both contemporary politics and its repercussions on the individual.
