Sojourner Truth Parsons Adult alone, 2022

The painting Adult alone depicts a scene with a couple of human figures set against the background of black, purple, deep blue and green. In the center of the work floral elements, possibly tulips are painted in an abstract manner. The circular forms suggest the moon moving across the dark nocturnal sky. Some elements of the work are glued cut-outs of painted canvas, adding to the geometrical, quilt-like structure of the work. The composition of the work may be read as a view from a window to outdoors, overlooking a landscape, with two figures standing indoors beside the window frame. Windows and an outlook towards outside is a recurring motif in Parsons' work.
