Sarah Buckner Hohes Lied zu tief / changes, 2024
Monkeys are recurrent motifs in Buckner’s oeuvre often depicted as a companion of a person. However, in Buckner’s Hohes Lied zu tief/changes, the oil on linen painting is dedicated to a single monkey. The animal is shown playing a flute on the edge of a cliff, giving the animal a playful, human character. The figure on the brown cliff is placed in the bottom corner on the viewer’s left and the rest of the composition is occupied by the blue sky. In the top right corner, diagonal to the monkey, a flying bird is visible.
