Sarah Buckner Inferno Rosa, 2024
180 x 130 cm each (3 parts)
Buckner’s work titled Inferno Rosa is a large-format oil on linen painting composed of three canvases from 2024. This painting combines recurrent figures in Buckner’s work. The girl lying on her stomach in blue overalls, holding her head up, appears in different paintings under various titles, in this case named Arlecchina, female version of Arlecchio, a stage figure from medieval Europe. The monkey sitting on her is also a frequent motif in her oeuvre. Despite the scene taking place in nature, Buckner clearly refers to circuses with the suggestive title and the monkey.
