Cemile Sahin Protect Their Skies, 2022

Cemile Sahin’s photographic panel is part of an ensemble of four that draw on motifs from the wallpaper used in the artist’s site-specific installation, Drone Valley, presented at the 19th Lyon Biennale in 2022.

Each of the four panels combines an image of the Turkey and Syrian border taken from Google Maps with a short text. The panels are UV printed on car wrapping foil and mounted on clear acrylic glass.

The images depict parts of the Syria-Turkey barrier, a wall and fence being built by Turkey since 2015, which today is considered the third longest wall after the Great Wall of China and the American-Mexico border war.
