In 2017 Cemile Sahin wrote a guest contribution for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit about the loss of language. It detailed the way in which Kurdish towns had been renamed and the language suppressed and outlawed. In response to her text, the comments section exploded with derogatory remarks and hateful comments which were subsequently removed by the site’s comment editors. In her video, Cemile Sahin reads her text as she scrolls through the article, the comments section, and various other online sites with newspaper articles or other sources of information on the political situation in Turkey.
