Rosa Barba Hear, There, Where the Echoes Are, 2016/2021

16 mm projectors, 35 mm projector, glass filters, screen, sound, performative element

Inquire

Hear, There, Where the Echoes Are is a site-specific installation where a various number of 16mm and 35mm projectors (six in the case of this exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie) are positioned in the exhibition space, pointing in different directions. Each film projector projects its light onto Plexiglas and hand-blown glass panes of various shades of red and yellow (evoking color filters tradionally used in cinema) hanging from the ceiling.

Controlled by a program, the projectors are orchestrated into a synchronized light projection activated and rhythmized by the recording of a sound performance of drummer Chad Taylor. The shutters placed in front of each projector’s lens open and close in rhythm with the drum beat.
