Ann Veronica Janssens Untitled, 2019-2023

Untitled is a block of optical glass that was cast with rounded corners in a minimalistic sculptural form. The optical glass material is clearer and more transparent than commonly produced glass, and the artwork appears to collect light from its surroundings. Its distorted transparency and gleaming refractions of light beams lend the work its unique and captivating appearance as the block seems to be simultaneously weightless and immobile.

Ann Veronica Janssens’ works foreground the body's perception of the world and itself in it. She often uses light, natural optical phenomena or glass as medium. Produced with great care, her works exude the impression of great simplicity yet create vivid experiences of the act of seeing, evoking a heightened awareness of the changeability and fleetingness of individual perceptions.
