Florin Mitroi 14.7.1988, 1988
Tempera on glass
39,5 x 33,4 x 1,7 cm (framed)
This work is part of a series of tempera paintings on reverted glass, a technique traditionally used in Romanian icon-making since the late 17th century.
Florin Mitroi (1938–2002) is an intriguing figure in the Romanian art scene. He taught at Bucharest’s "Nicolae Grigorescu" Institute of Fine Arts for more than 30 years, but only after his death was the full extent of his own practice discovered. An impressive body of works was found in his studio, mainly consisting of paintings and drawings, but also including photographs and metal cut-outs.
