Florin Mitroi Atropos, 23.III.1994, 1994
39,5 x 33,6 x 1,7 cm
The work depicts Atropos, one of the three Moirai or goddesses of fate and destiny – with Clotho and Lachesis – here represented as a naked woman facing a dressed figure whose closed eyes might suggest that he/she is dead. In Greek mythology, the Moirai personified the inescapable destiny of man.
This work is part of a series of tempera paintings on reverted glass, a technique traditionally used in Romanian icon-making since the late 17th century.
