Bertalan had a studio-laboratory in Timișoara where he kept a lush wild garden. The plants where attentively cared for but also conceded freedom to grow and expand spontaneously. The cabbage was one of them and it is detailed here. Bertalan awards agency to his non-human subjects of observation which makes him a forerunner of the contemporary discourses regarding our perception of ‘nature’ and the adapting roles of botany, evolutionary ecology, and environmental aesthetics in the humanities.
