Roman Ondak Swap, 2011

Consisting of a continuous flow of giving and taking, Swap is one of Roman Ondak’s most celebrated performance pieces. The performer sits behind a table, upon which is placed an object which he has chosen before any visitors arrive. The first visitor is given the opportunity to swap the object for anything they have with them that they are willing to exchange. The next visitor is invited to do the same with the new object on the table, thus setting in motion a chain of objects being traded and interactions between visitor and performer. At the end of the exhibition the performer is allowed to leave with the final object.
